PROJECT STATEMENT
The 12 Zodiac is created by early Japanese oil painting master Kimura Yukeio(木村由記夫). Yukio Kimura, who graduated from the Department of Western Painting at the Kawabata Art School in Japan, used to serve as a judge of the Pacific Painting Association and a secretary of the Fine Arts Association of Tokyo Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The zodiac images described by Kimura Yukeio give people a vivid and pristine artistic perception, reflecting the commoners’ long-cherished desire to live healthy and prosperous lives. They are widely used and have become part of Japanese folk culture, covering a range of areas of painted sculpture, clay sculpture, woven cloth, and paper-cut shadow puppets etc. Unconventional layouts, free technique, optimistic spirit — all combine to create philosophical aesthetics and the life force itself, of Japanese.
